Fireproof glass has been widely used in our modern buildings,but there are still many blind spots in practical application,such as how to use fireproof glass correctly,which type of fireproof glass to use,and which parts can use fireproof glass.
At the same time,many construction units,design units,and construction units have misconceptions and usage misconceptions,believing that as long as fire-resistant glass is used,it can be used as a fire-resistant partition,and partition walls made of fire-resistant glass can meet the fire resistance limit requirements.As fire supervision personnel,there are also many vague understandings in daily approval and inspection,and they do not know how to grasp this.

Fire resistant glass and fire resistant glass partition walls are not distinguished
Some buildings require both fire separation and aesthetic transparency in their design,so fire-resistant glass partitions are used as fire separation measures,such as boutique partitions in performance-based commercial pedestrian streets,glass firewalls in large commercial spaces,and observation windows in observation shafts.However,designers often label fire-resistant glass on the drawings instead of fire-resistant glass partitions,while fire reviewers usually only propose to indicate a few hours of fire-resistant glass partitions and do not require designers to draw detailed construction methods for fire-resistant glass partitions.In actual construction,a common practice is for the construction party to purchase fire-resistant glass according to the design requirements and fix the fire-resistant glass in the frame according to the ordinary glass partition method.The glass joints are injected with glass glue.Simply put,it is considered that the fire-resistant glass is spliced together to form a fire-resistant glass partition wall,which meets the fire protection requirements.The inspection report of the fire-resistant glass should be submitted during acceptance.
These all overlook that fire-resistant glass partitions are composed of fire-resistant components such as fire-resistant glass,frames,sealing materials,and cushion blocks,and are a complete system.Fireproof glass is only a component of fire-resistant glass partition walls,and must be installed in combination with inlaid frames and fire-resistant sealing materials to form a fire-resistant glass partition wall and meet the corresponding fire resistance limit standards specified in the regulations.

Issues to pay attention to when adding spray protection to fire-resistant glass
Related experiments both domestically and internationally have shown that selecting an appropriate water spray system for protection can effectively extend the time it takes for a single piece of fire-resistant glass to reach the point of loss of insulation and street facing radiation,effectively extending the fire insulation time and ensuring personnel evacuation.At present,this design is widely used in performance-based designs such as large commercial pedestrian streets,and is protected by a single piece of non insulated fire-resistant glass with a water spray system to provide insulation.The most crucial aspect of such engineering practices is the water distribution effect of spray protection,as experiments have shown that once the spray protection is lost,a single piece of fire-resistant glass will quickly lose its smoke and fire prevention function.
But there are many problems in the design and construction,such as some shops on both sides of commercial pedestrian streets directly decorating their shapes on fire-resistant glass,which affects the water distribution effect of the nozzles;Some install the nozzle under the brand door of the decoration,which affects the heat collection of the nozzle;Some door heads are installed between fire-resistant glass and nozzles,causing obstruction;Some construction units have not separately set up the pipeline of the spray protection system,sharing the same pipeline with other sprays,resulting in the spray water volume and duration not meeting the design requirements;Some construction units use the wrong type of nozzle.In short,during construction,it should be ensured that the nozzle can timely and effectively protect the fire-resistant glass used for separation,which should be noted.

Misunderstandings in the design and construction of fire-resistant glass partition walls
At present,many design units do not design engineering practices,and construction units have misconceptions about the testing report of fire-resistant glass.They believe that as long as the selected fire-resistant glass has a testing report,it is sufficient,ignoring that fire resistance testing is not just a few pages of testing report,but a complete set of systematic description of the detailed dimensions,material use,and fire performance of the fire-resistant system.The"Building Safety Glass Part 1:Fireproof Glass"(GB15763.1-2009)atlas illustrates the types,thicknesses,shapes,dimensions,assembly details,node diagrams,and even detailed descriptions of the size and position of the fixing screws used in the testing of the system.According to Article 7.3 on fire resistance performance,the size of the sample of fire-resistant glass subjected to fire should be selected as the maximum size actually used for testing,and should not be less than 1200mm x 700mm.

Issues in fire supervision
Some supervisors mistakenly believe that doors made of fire-resistant glass are fire-resistant doors,partition walls made of fire-resistant glass are fire-resistant glass partition walls,and windows made of fire-resistant glass are fire-resistant windows.It should be clearly understood that fire-resistant glass,fire-resistant glass partition walls,fire-resistant doors,and fire-resistant windows are completely different fire-fighting products,and corresponding inspection reports should be checked.Fire resistant doors should also have type inspection reports.
In the inspection,it is not enough to simply inquire about the fire resistance limit of fire-resistant glass,but rather to carefully compare the size of fire-resistant glass in the inspection report with whether it matches the on-site practice.The fire resistance limit of fire-resistant glass partition walls also depends on the frame structure and the connection and fixation method between the glass and the frame.During the inspection,it is also necessary to check whether the engineering method of the fire-resistant glass partition wall is installed and constructed according to the construction technology provided by the production enterprise.For example,the insulation type frame system uses composite insulation type fire-resistant glass,and the colloid inside the glass will foam and expand when heated,so there should be a certain gap between the glass and the frame during installation;The non insulated frame system uses single piece fire-resistant glass.In a fire,the single piece fire-resistant glass will soften and sag.Therefore,when installing the frame system,the glass should be tightly clamped without leaving any gaps.
